Goldbacks resemble standard paper currency in shape but are made with thin layers of 24-karat gold. Initially introduced in Utah following the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2019, they serve as a voluntary currency, allowing transactions at the vendor's discretion. Since then, additional states have each launched their own Goldbacks in subsequent years, with California becoming the 10th state to adopt this unique form of currency.
Currency Highlights:
- Contains 1/200 (0.005 oz) of .999 fine gold.
- Individual notes are housed in a currency sleeve or bundled packs.
- Face: Features Abundantia, the personification of abundance, standing among the rolling vineyards of Sonoma Valley and holding clusters of ripe grapes. The California quail represents the Golden State's beauty and diversity, while Mission San Francisco Solano appears in the distance.
- Manufactured in the United States of America.

About the California 5 Goldback
The California 5 Goldback portrays Abundantia, the personification of abundance. She stands among the rolling vineyards of Sonoma Valley, California, holding clusters of ripe grapes. Beside her is the state bird, the California quail, while the UV layer reveals a ladybug as a symbol of good luck. The Mission San Francisco Solano stands in the distance, the last and northernmost of California's twenty-one missions.
This design reminds us that true fortune is the prosperity that grows from patient cultivation. The enduring principle reads: “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”
Customer Reviews
"Amazing service and hospitality from the staff at IDC! Jason was so attentive and patient in our search for our ideal watches. He took us through several options, had us try every watch we were interested in, took our information and continued searching for options. A few hours later, we had our watches on hold and ready for pick up! He located a watch that I LOVE, and a unique piece for my husband. We are grateful to have found our new Jeweler for many pieces to come!"
