In 2019, the Utah Goldback became the first release in the Goldback Series. Utah was selected because it led the nation by recognizing gold and silver as legal tender with the passage of the 2011 Legal Tender Act. This helped establish the Utah Goldback within the broader history of precious metals as a form of money. As demand for Goldback notes has continued over the years, Goldback is introducing refreshed Utah Goldbacks beginning in 2026. The redesign updates the original note designs and also expands the series by offering additional denominations that were not part of the original 2019 release.

These 1/2 Utah Goldback Gold Notes are available in currency sleeves or in loose bundles of 100 notes. The new 1/2 Utah Goldback was not available in the original Utah Goldback Series, making this new design an all-new entry in the Utah Goldback Series as the collection is refreshed in 2026.

For the design of the 1/2 Utah Goldback Gold Note, you will see a pioneering woman reflective of the allegory for patience as she and other settlers move through Emigration Canyon in the Salt Lake Valley. The patience and determination of the pioneer companies who navigated Emigration Canyon in the summer of 1847 represents some of the most inspiring and quietly heroic human endurance in the entire story of American westward migration, families who had already walked a thousand miles pushing handcarts and guiding wagons through the canyon’s final obstacles with a faith and persistence that drew on reserves of physical and spiritual strength accumulated across months of hardship.

Emigration Canyon is one of the most historically significant natural corridors in the American West, the narrow mountain passage through the Wasatch Range that served as the final gateway for the Mormon pioneer companies whose 1847 arrival in the Salt Lake Valley marked the beginning of one of the most remarkable settlement stories in American history. The canyon’s steep, rocky walls and the narrow creek that guided travelers through it made the final miles of the pioneer journey both physically demanding and emotionally overwhelming as the first glimpse of the vast Salt Lake Valley suddenly opened before the exhausted travelers.

Customer Reviews

"Amazing service and hospitality from the staff at IDC! Jason was so attentive and patient in our search for our ideal watches. He took us through several options, had us try every watch we were interested in, took our information and continued searching for options. A few hours later, we had our watches on hold and ready for pick up! He located a watch that I LOVE, and a unique piece for my husband. We are grateful to have found our new Jeweler for many pieces to come!"
