Each 2020 2 oz Destruction of Leviathan Biblical Silver Coin available in this JM Bullion listing comes with its own Bible-themed presentation booklet. The booklet includes a numbered Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. The coins in this series are struck on beautiful, rimless blanks for an antique appearance. This visual is furthered with the application of an antique polish that creates a matte finish on the coins. Each coin comes with its own, unique serial number between 1 and 1,499 etched on the edge.
The story of the Leviathan is one of the older tales of the Bible. Jewish mythology identifies the creature as a sea serpent and it is mentioned in several books throughout the Hebrew Bible, including Pslams, the Book of Job, Book Isaiah, and the Book of Amos. While there are several root stories within Jewish culture for the Leviathan, the term has generally come to serve as a metaphor for a powerful enemy.
The obverse side of 2020 2 oz Destruction of Leviathan Biblical Silver Coins features a right-profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the third-generation portrait of the Queen created in 1985 by Raphael Maklouf and used briefly on British coins between 1985 and 1997. The effigy, notably, includes the George IV State Diadem Crown as the jewel piece on the Queen’s head.
On the reverse face of 2020 Destruction of Leviathan Biblical Silver Coins is a depiction of God in heaven preparing to smite the Leviathan. Based on an 1865 work of art from Gustave Dore, you can see rays of light illuminating God’s figure as he unsheathes a sword to punish the massive serpent. From the Book of Isaiah 27:1, it is said “Gold will unsheathe his sword, his merciless, massive, mighty sword. He’ll punish the serpent Leviathan as it flees. He’ll kill that old dragon that lives in the sea.”
