Jesus is said to have taught inside the Jewish synagogue at Capernaum after leaving Nazareth. Each of the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John reference Jesus teaching in Jewish synagogues. In Matthew, readers learn of Jesus settling in Capernaum and teaching in the Great Synagogue in the city. Mark references Jesus teaching and healing in the synagogue, while Luke also references Jesus teaching regularly in the synagogue and references the miracle he performed in the synagogue of Capernaum. John’s gospel also confirms that Jesus taught at the synagogue of Capernaum.

The box is styled after the Bible and comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. The coins have an antique polish with designs struck on a rimless blank to recreate the appearance of ancient coinage. Each coin also has a laser-etched serial number on the edge.
On the obverse face of 2020 Christ in the Synagogue Biblical Silver Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief in a design that was created in 1985 by Raphael Maklouf. Featured on British coins from 1985 to 1997, the effigy includes the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head.
The reverse side of 2020 2 oz Christ in the Synagogue Biblical Silver Coins features a depiction of Jesus surrounded by onlookers as he preaches in the synagogue. The moment featured here references the Gospel of Matthew’s account of Jesus teaching in his hometown synagogue in Nazareth, with onlookers confused by his wisdom and knowledge, while also offended by his ability to perform miracles.
