Details
The Norse God Series from the Anonymous Mint has captivated precious metals collectors worldwide with its deep-relief depictions of historic Norse mythology. Struck in partnership with Osborne Precious Metals (America's oldest private mint facility), this series brings ancient legends to life using a unique proof-like mirror background combined with a warm, dark antique finish that adds unparalleled visual depth to every detail.
In this second release of the series, the spotlight falls upon Thor, the God of Thunder. Son of Odin and the giantess Fjorgyn, Thor is a fierce, red-bearded warrior who serves as the ultimate protector of both gods and humans against the forces of evil. As the ruler of the weather, he commands thunder, lightning, wind, rain, and fair weather.
Obverse Design:
The obverse features the stunning artwork of Howard David Johnson, depicting Thor perched in his battle chariot. He raises his iconic and powerful hammer, Mjolnir, which magically returns to his hand after hitting its target. He is surrounded by billowing thunder clouds and dynamic streaks of lightning. Inscriptions include "THOR" and "God of Thunder" curved elegantly along the top rim.
Reverse Design:
Shared across all releases in this iconic series, the reverse displays a powerful depiction of a Norse Valkyrie. One of Odin's hand-chosen warrior maidens is shown riding a majestic rearing steed through the sky above human battlefields. She wields a traditional spear and a round Celtic shield as she watches over the combatants to choose the bravest of the fallen. Inscriptions read "VALKYRIE", "Chooser of the Slain", and "1 Ounce .999 Fine Silver".
