Round Highlights:
The word Ama-Gi was first written in cuneiform on tablets describing grievances against the Sumerian people in the city-state of Girsu. In an attempt to restore liberty to the people there, a man named Urukagina led an uprising that resulted in moral and social reforms. While the precise translation of Ama-Gi means ‘return to the mother,’ its use in this context suggests the need for reforms to restore natural liberty to the people of Girsu.
A depiction of Lady Liberty can be found on the obverse of 2022 The Awakening Series Ama-Gi Liberty Silver Rounds. In this design, Liberty has long flowing locks and wears a Phrygian cap, which historically represents freedom from slavery. The word Liberty is inscribed across the upper rim, and in the background, we see the Ama-Gi symbol.
The all-seeing eye is featured on the reverse side of 2022 2 oz The Awakening Series Ama-Gi Liberty Rounds. Just like the US $1 bill, the eye is positioned atop a pyramid, only here it is magnified to highlight the message of our awakening to civic corruption.
