First introduced in 2019, the Utah Goldback became the inaugural release in the Goldback Series. Utah was a fitting choice, as it became the first state to recognize gold and silver as legal tender through the 2011 Utah Legal Tender Act. That connection gave the Utah Goldback a meaningful place within the tradition of precious metals as currency. Following years of strong interest in Goldback notes, the company is updating the original Utah Series with redesigned releases in 2026. Along with refreshed artwork for the original denominations, the updated series also expands the lineup with new Goldback denominations that were not offered when the collection first debuted in 2019.

This 1/4 Utah Goldback is the first release of this denomination in the Utah Series and comes as the Utah Goldbacks are redesigned seven years after their debut.
Moab, Utah, sits at the heart of one of the most dramatically beautiful and geologically extraordinary landscapes on Earth, its red rock canyons, towering sandstone arches, and vast desert plateaus sculpted by millions of years of wind and water erosion into a terrain of almost otherworldly visual power that has made it one of America’s most celebrated outdoor destinations.
In the design of the 1/4 Utah Goldback, the female allegory of Justice is featured with Balanced Rock in the background. Balanced Rock in Arches National Park near Moab is one of the most visually striking and improbable-seeming geological formations in the American West, a massive boulder weighing approximately 3,577 tons perched atop a narrow pedestal of softer Entrada Sandstone in a composition so seemingly precarious that first-time visitors instinctively feel the urge to step back from it.
