Coin Highlights:
Somalia Elephant coins originally debuted as silver bullion products, with additional growth in the early years to include silver proof specimens, as well as the gold bullion and proof specimens. In 2016, the Bavarian State Mint has further enhanced the program with the release of a platinum coin for the first time.
On the obverse of each 2016 1/25 oz Somalia Gold Elephant coin you’ll find the unique African elephant design used only in 2016. The image of an African elephant is featured at the banks of a body of water, which winds off into the distance in the background.
The reverse of all Somalia Gold Coins features the common design of the coat of arms for Somalia. This image includes the heraldic shield with a single star and background of horizontal lines. There are leopards on either side of the shield, with a pair of spears crossing each other below the shield.
Somalia Elephant coins are an exclusive design of the Bavarian State Mint. Opened in Bavaria in 1158, it is one of Europe’s oldest mints and an official refinery of the German national government.
