The 2021 edition of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is the sixth design by the famous engraver John M. Mercanti. The High Relief coin depicts a swooping Wedge-Tailed Eagle with a snake in its talons. The motive is framed by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE" and "2021 5oz 9999 SILVER". The traditional mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint is also included in the design. The reverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination. The Wedge-Tailed eagle is one of the biggest eagles in the world and Australia's largest bird of prey. Its impressive wings measure a wingspan of up to 2.7 meters. Coin Highlights:
The Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coin series was introduced in 2014. The Perth Mint paired with John Mercanti, the former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, to create this wonderful series. John Mercanti is known for overseeing countless major coin design initiatives for the U.S. Mint. He retired in 2010 as the 12th Chief Engraver in mint history after working at the U.S. Mint for four different decades.
