South East Refining 1 oz Silver Round

The Vintage 1 oz Silver South East Refining Round is a rare, premium numismatic product minted exclusively in the United States between March 1980 and December 1982. Visual Description & Die Varieties

South East Refining issued two primary design varieties for their one-ounce silver rounds:

Variety 1: The Soaring Eagle

Obverse (Front): Features a detailed eagle in full flight soaring against a background pattern of a rising sun with long, extending rays. The text reads "One Silver Ounce".

Reverse (Back): Features the company identity text stamped along the perimeter. The upper rim reads "South East Refining Inc." and the lower rim reads "Panama City Fla.". The center is stamped with "+999 Fine Silver".

Variety 2: The Coronet Eagle

Obverse (Front): Features a classic heraldic eagle design inspired by the reverse side of historic US Coronet gold coinage.

Reverse (Back): Shares the same essential text layout as Variety 1, reading "South East Refining Inc" and "Panama City, Florida." Certain rare secondary dies feature a scales pattern back displaying the shorthand initials "S.E.R.", "P.C.", and "FLA".

Collectibility & Market Information

Rarity Rating: High. Because the refinery was active for less than three years, total production counts were limited compared to major commercial mints. A significant portion of the original mintage was melted down when silver prices collapsed in the 1980s.

Market Premium: High. These rounds command a significant collector premium well above the base spot price of silver. They are actively traded by vintage silver enthusiasts and specialized numismatic dealers.

Condition Profile: Due to their age and historical circulation, authentic specimens typically exhibit natural toning, minor contact marks, or slight edge dings. This oxidation does not reduce the silver content and serves as proof of authenticity and age.

Customer Reviews

"Amazing service and hospitality from the staff at IDC! Jason was so attentive and patient in our search for our ideal watches. He took us through several options, had us try every watch we were interested in, took our information and continued searching for options. A few hours later, we had our watches on hold and ready for pick up! He located a watch that I LOVE, and a unique piece for my husband. We are grateful to have found our new Jeweler for many pieces to come!"
