In 2012, London hosted the 30th Olympic and Paralympic Games. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, the Royal Mint launched three Countdown Coins in the years preceding the exciting event, the first release being this special £5 coin.
Coin Highlights:
- Limited mintage of 4,000 coins.
- Contains 1.1771 oz actual Gold weight.
- Population of 510 coins at this grade level.
- Obverse: Stylized design of a swimmer mingled with large digital 3 to symbolize the countdown to the Olympic Games, with colorized official logo on the left. "COUNTDOWN - 2009 - XXX OLYMPIAD".
- Reverse: Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and denomination.
