The Peso is the official currency of Chile, having first been introduced in 1817 before becoming its central monetary unit in 1925. From 1926 to 1980, Chile produced the 100 Peso gold coin, which remains an appealing investment item for those intrigued by world coins and their historical significance.
Chile is a South American country that shares borders with Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. The southernmost country on the globe, Chile is set between the Andes Mountain range and the Pacific Ocean, with Antarctica positioned directly south of its border. Chile was conquered by Spain during the Age of Discovery in the 16th century. Replacing the Incan civilization, Spain ruled in the region until 1818, when Chile finally declared its independence.
These 100 Chilean Gold Pesos will arrive to you housed inside a protective plastic flip. These coins will arrive with various dates and will be in varied conditions, as well. As such, you can expect your coin to bear anything from minor to significant flaws.
The obverse of 100 Chilean Pesos contains a female laureate head. This figure is shown in left-profile relief. Her hair is tied up in a bun and is decorated with laurels and flowers. She also is shown wearing a traditional Chilean dress. The words Republica de Chile are inscribed above. Beneath the portrait, the date will be listed.
On the reverse side of Chilean Gold Pesos, you will see the Chilean coat of arms. In this design we see two crowned animals, a condor and a huemul, propping up a shield. The shield contains a five-pointed star and is crowned with a feathered crest. Inscriptions on the reverse read Cien Pesos, 100 PS Diez Condores.
