Engelhard was once among America’s leading private mints. Starting in the 1970s, it refined countless gold, silver, platinum, and palladium bars. Though it no longer makes new products, you can still find its bars available online. When it was founded in 1902, the Engelhard Corporation moved quickly to acquire other businesses. In the first three years of operation, it went from being a new company to becoming one of the largest platinum smelters and refiners in the US.
Over the course of more than a century in operation, it produced a wide variety of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium bars for investors, and refined metals for countless other industrial and commercial applications. It is well known for developing the catalytic converter for automobiles.
Obverse design elements on these 100 oz Engelhard Cast Poured Silver Bars include all the identifying hallmarks of the bar. These include the weight and purity, as well as a serial number. At the top, the bar features Engelhard’s bull logo, its traditional rectangular octagon with an added circle and half-circle that make it resemble a bull’s head. The reverse field is blank.
Each bar is a cast, poured specimen that may showcase a rough finish. Toning of the silver is possible in larger bars such as these. Silver toning is the result of the natural oxidation process and does not detract from the overall value of the silver.
