After the successful launch of the British Royal Arms bullion coins in 2019 with 1 oz gold and silver coins, the Royal Mint is back with the same stunning rendition of the modern Royal Arms of England on a 1 oz platinum coin in 2020 to expand the series.
Coin Highlights:
The Royal Arms dates back to the Saxon and Danish kings that reign in England before the formation of a unified kingdom in the British Isles. Even in those early designs, lions were popularly used on the coat of arms for monarchs in England. It wasn’t until the second Plantagenet king reigned, King Richard I, that an official English Royal Arms was adopted in 1198.
Richard the Lionheart, as he was better known, had previously used battle shields and colors with one or two lions in a passant guardant pose. By 1198, late in his reign, an official coat of arms with three lions of gold on a red field was accepted as the Royal Arms of England. The modern coat of arms, though expanded, still includes the famed Three Lions of Richard I.
On the obverse field of the 2020 1 oz British Platinum Royal Arms Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the definitive fifth-generation portrait of the Queen for English coins and was designed in July 2015 by Jody Clark. Mr. Clark is the youngest artist ever to create a monarch portrait for the Royal Mint of England. His effigy of the Queen shows the monarch at the age of 89. The background field on this side boasts the guilloche design element.
The reverse side of the 2020 British Platinum Royal Arms Coin depicts the complex Royal Arms of England. This design maintains all the proper parts of the Royal Arms of England. The quartered shield as the Three Lions of England in two of the four quadrants. The upper-right quadrant has the Lion of Scotland in its traditional rampant pose, while the lower-left quadrant has the Harp of Ireland representing Northern Ireland. The shield is supported by the Lion of England on the left and Unicorn of Scotland on the right.

"Amazing service and hospitality from the staff at IDC! Jason was so attentive and patient in our search for our ideal watches. He took us through several options, had us try every watch we were interested in, took our information and continued searching for options. A few hours later, we had our watches on hold and ready for pick up! He located a watch that I LOVE, and a unique piece for my husband. We are grateful to have found our new Jeweler for many pieces to come!"
