The reverse of 2022 Biblical 2 oz Silver Coins features the Holy Spirit descending on the Apostles. As described in the Acts of the Apostles, the Holy Spirit takes the form of tongues of fire. The Apostles are shown in robes as they fold their hands and behold this stunning event. This image is based on the beloved wood engraving by artist Paul Gustave Louis Christophe Doré.
Each year, the Descent of the Holy Spirit is commemorated on the feast of Pentecost, which occurs on the 50th day following Easter. The Acts of the Apostles describes the event with startling clarity. The Apostles were celebrating the Jewish holiday called the Feast of Weeks when a sudden noise filled their house. They then saw tongues of flame descending toward them. Speaking in tongues, they became filled with the Holy Spirit and were thus given the power to proclaim the word of Jesus.
