Known as the crucifixion, his death occurred in 1st century Judea and is believed by many biblical scholars to have occurred between the years of 30 and 33 AD. His death by crucifixion was an excruciatingly painful way to die.
Crucifixion was a popular tool of punishment in this era, with individuals nailed to a cross with spikes through each hand and one long spike through both feet. Blood loss as a result of the spikes was not the means of death, but rather the pressure exerted on the body as it hung from the cross eventually results in death by asphyxiation.

All coins in this series are struck in high relief on rimless blanks, and have edge-lettering with their individual serial number included.
