The Cleansing of the Temple describes Jesus visiting Jerusalem with his disciples for Passover, the Spring festival celebrating the liberation of the Israelites from Egypt. Upon arriving, Jesus encounters merchants and money changers at the temple. Typical descriptions and depictions of this scene show Jesus taking a scourge made of small chords and casting the merchants from the place of worship. This is the rare instance in which Jesus is shown acting with aggression and is one of the most recognized events in the New Testament.
